Mackay Boatbuilders was formed in 1967 under the ownership of Bob Mackay, Clem Jolly and Jean Gerrard.
Over the years the yard built many wooden fishing boats from laying the keel to the launch, some of these are still working fishing boats to this day.
The company was taken over by Harry Simpson and Duncan Crosbie in 1990 upon the retirement of the previous directors and was re-named Mackay Boatbuilders (Arbroath) Ltd. Harry and Duncan began working for the company as two of the original apprentices and continued traditional skills as owners of the company.
Harry and Duncan have since retired and the company was taken over by Paul Simpson and Lynn Cameron, Harry’s son and daughter in 2015.
Over the years Mackay Boatbuilders have been involved with several prestigious contracts such as repairs to RRS Discovery, Unicorn, PS Waverley and many more.
Mackay Boatbuilders have earned a very good reputation for a high standard of work and customer service, the reputation has encouraged customers from all over Scotland and also the north of England to become regular customers.
